In the United States, there are a lot of employers who see health care benefits as the enemy. This is due to the fact that some health care providers fix their attention on the growing cost of the services that are included in the health care package, and this has led them to take steps to lower the rates. Most countries have put this subject on the sideline and they expect that the government will take care of the issue. Some of these health care providers hope that the insurance companies of the patients, or the government will take on this responsibility.

One thing that employers fail to understand is that no matter how hard they try to avoid the subject of health care issues, it will forever haunt them, no matter what kind of health care system is being implemented. The responsibilities of these health care insurance companies include the liability of paying the medical costs, absenteeism, and any other health related issues that they have to pay due to poor health.

According to one study in the United States, most employers use up millions of dollars paying for the indirect expenditure due to unfortunate health condition rather than spending their dollars in health benefits. The expenses that the employers have to pay when it comes to poor health are significantly higher. Conditions like diabetes, heart conditions, and respiratory troubles are among those medical conditions that can cost an employer a fortune, and getting out of this situation will not solve the problems of these health care providers because it will continue.

Most European countries have discovered that investing in the health of their employers by providing them with wellness programs will significantly increase the productivity of their employers, thus decreasing the amount of money that they have to pay for the cost of poor health. One of the approaches that the employers use is bargaining for the best and maximum amount of discounts that they can get from other health plans providers and third party health proprietors. Often they are constantly searching for companies that can help them to provide better deals for their employers. This action on the part of the employers can cause confusion among their employees.

Due to the increase of health care costs, some employers have passed on their responsibility of paying the cost of the health care to their employees. Many of the steps that these employers take as far as health care issues are concerned has cost them more. So, one vital thing that any employer can do to improve their health care system is to consider the value of the health care services and not just the cost alone. After all, it is the results that both employers and employees are after. The main objective of this approach is to increase the value of the services and not to reduce the costs of the overall health care benefits.

I’m 23 years old, I can run pretty fast and I can bench more than my weight. My back and abs are strong, my arms aren’t as good and my legs are in between. I want to find a workout routine that is good for me that fits well into a busy week that builds my speed and strength up. Something that has predictable results that I can use a notebook with is ideal. Any suggestions?

Acai Berry: Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Care

Posted by admin On December - 16 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

It may be tempting to ignore the acai berry as just marketing hype and the latest fad. However, even though it isn’t a “miracle berry” or the cure to all that ails you, the acai berry is an extremely powerful source of antioxidants and one of the most nutritious fruits in the world.

Why should you care about all this talk about antioxidants and nutrition? I’m glad you asked. Here are 10 excellent reasons why you should care about the acai berry:

10. Helps Maintain Good Cholesterol & Fight Heart Disease

Essential fatty acids and antioxidants in the acai berry help fight bad cholesterol (LDL) while at the same time maintaining good cholesterol (HDL) and fighting heart disease. The essential fatty acids also aid in the absorbency of necessary vitamins like Vitamin A, D, E, and K.

9. Improved Vision

The acai berry contains a specific type of antioxidant called “anthocyanins” which are known to improve vision. During World War II, British pilots ate large amounts of bilberry (which also contains anthocyanins) as they said it improved their night vision.

8. Saves the Rainforest

The recent popularity of the acai berry actually helps save the Rainforest. You see, before the large demand for acai berries, local farmers harvested the entire acai tree for palm hearts. Palm hearts are used in expensive salads.

Fortunately, now that the acai berry is becoming more and more sought after, the natives are paid more to harvest acai berries. This means that they actually want to protect the trees instead of cutting them down.

7. Better Sleep

The acai berry contains amino acids that relax your muscles and allow for a more restful sleep. It also contains Vitamin B which helps to regulate the dopamine and serotonin (both neurotransmitters that impact sleep) production in the brain.

6. Fights Diseases and Boosts Immune System
The Amazon rain forest contains some of the richest soil in the world. As a result, the acai berry is packed with natural minerals and nutrients that fight disease and increase energy by boosting the immune system. In Brazil the acai berry is also commonly known as an effective anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent.

5. Increase in Energy & Stamina

Natives of Brazil are some of the most active people in the entire world. It’s understandable considering that they have access to one of the most perfect foods available. Aside from being a perfect source of nutrition and carbohydrates, the high levels of antioxidants in the acai berry lead to a huge boost in energy levels and stamina. Locals will often mix acai pulp and Guarana (another amazing fruit with natural stimulants) for a healthy burst of natural energy.

4. Helps Fight Weight Gain

The acai berry’s natural combination of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, amino acids, phytosterols, and amino acids work together to help your body function better, process food easier, and burn fat more efficiently.

3. Better Sex

When NBC’s Matt Laurer took a recent trip to the Amazon, he was amused to find that the acai drink he had just finished is commonly referred to as “Amazon Rainforest Viagra”. Locals swear it has libido enhancing qualities. Combine those qualities with the increase in energy, stamina, and better overall body function and you can see why the acai berry is compared to that famous little blue pill.

2. May Help Fight Cancer

The University of Florida published a study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry that found that acai berries triggered a self destruct response in up to 86% of human cancer cells. Yes, you read that right, it caused cancer cells to self destruct! This study was only on the cellular level and wasn’t in the human body, but it perfectly illustrates the antioxidant capability and healing qualities of the acai berry. The University is currently studying the effect of acai in the human body.

1. Fights the Aging Process

The most exciting benefit of regularly consuming the acai berry may just be its effect on the aging process. Free radicals are molecules that attack the cells in the body and damage our DNA. In simple terms, free radicals are the cause of aging ailments such as cancer, arthritis, inflammation, atherosclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. The acai berry is recognized as one of the best foods for aging because it’s absolutely jam-packed with free radical fighting antioxidants.

Holiday Workouts should be a YES YES

Posted by admin On December - 11 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

With people so concerned about time off, vacations, resting whenever they can, taking it easy, being careful not to overdo and most everything similar, it seems unlikely that one should never miss taking a day off when the calender says you should. The same might go for religious persons when it comes to Sunday. Remembering the Sabbath to keep it holy is a given.

There are at least two problems with this theory. First, one would never take a day off from brushing your teeth–Sabbath, holiday or . personal strike against life day. Possibly 100  or so years ago you might have, but not today. Second Michael Phelps when interviewed after last years Olympics said that he not only had not had a day off for as long as he could remember, but really did not mind.

Most people find the everyday without a break discipline simply impossible. They argue that it wears them out, creates personality problems (all work and no play making Jack or Jane a dull person) and the like. They cannot conceive of a benefit to never missing a workout even if its only 60-80 minutes long while possibly listening to their favorite music, reading with the help of a bike rack or watching CNN.

How is the normal daily workout that much different than the early morning tooth care ritual? Granted oral hygiene may at most take five to seven minutes in comparison to the 60-80 of the standard workout. But where are more more differences than this? Clearly, it seems there would be far more similarities. For instance, both result in an increased attractiveness; both eliminate residue and debris; both make a person feel fantastic; both are simply considered to be good for a person relative to his overall healthiness.

This country has a strong belief in the ultimate goodness of rest and relaxation. Any day off, vacation or holiday is seen as a major celebration of our opulence as a nation. People elsewhere could never do such a thing, presumably. As a result we look oddly on those who seem to disagree, flaunting their July Fourth fifteen mile run in our faces.

You are a Health Nut if you dare to be different. The Normal Majority doesn’t like such blatant deviation from what they believe to be tried true, good, and right. Yet, these Normal Folks just don’t look all that great, do they? Might not their love handles and pots be the result of just too much celebrating?
